Topic: Making the Move to Hyper-V / System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008
Virtualization is a hot topic, and the undisputed king in this arena has been VMware (especially ESX server) in terms of market share, performance, and features. VMware's ESX Server blew Microsoft's Virtual Server product out of the water in performance because ESX Server is a bare metal hypervisor virtualization platform where Virtual Server is a host-based virtualization platform. Well, Microsoft released Hyper-V this summer, and this is a hypervisor virtualization platform that closes the gap with ESX Server significantly. Hyper-V is free.
Join Van Vangor as he shares his experience in moving from Virtual Server to Hyper-V. Van is the Director of Information Technology for the Community Foundation of Sarasota County (CFSC), and CFSC had been using Microsoft Virtual Server in a production environment since 2006. This fall CFSC migrated from Virtual Server to Hyper-V, and as you can expect with any new product, there were a few potholes along the way.
Van will also be touching on Microsoft's System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) 2008, which adds more manageability to the environment. Additionally, Van will briefly cover CFSC's experience with using an iSCSI SAN as part of the virtualization environment.

Pizza (or sandwiches) and drinks will be provided, so don't worry about stopping for dinner before the meeting. Why do we give away food and drink at a free event? Because we're the best tech group in Sarasota! And if the free food wasn't enough, after the meeting several hardy members of the group go to the Cock 'N Bull pub and pontificate about all things technical or otherwise.
